Growing up in the country, gardening was a part of many people’s day-to-day lives. My grandeddy was an amazing gardener and our yard was always kept up because of him. We had a pecan tree in my earlier years (which was accidentally cut down by construction workers). My grandeddy had two apple trees, all kinds of vegetables, rose bushes, cactus plants, and a hibiscus bush right outside my window that would perfume my room in the spring and summer Our yard was filled with all kinds of plants that gave our family pride. However, I didn’t develop the green thumb that my grandfather had until literally the last year or so. It has brought me so much joy to have my plant babies (and keep them alive)!
Along with my grandfather, my dad is the owner of Prince Bay Farms so his expertise in gardening runs deep. He grows all kinds of flowers, plants, trees, fruits, and vegetables. Literally living the dream life!

Gardening has long been known for its therapeutic benefits. From reducing stress and anxiety to improving mood and overall well-being, tending to a garden can have a positive impact on both our physical and mental health. Here are some of the ways gardening can help relieve stress:
- Mindfulness: Gardening requires focus and attention to detail, which can help us stay present in the moment and practice mindfulness. This can be especially helpful for reducing stress and anxiety.
- Physical Activity: Gardening is a form of physical activity, which can help reduce stress and improve overall health. Tending to a garden can be a low-impact way to get exercise and stay active.
- Connection to Nature: Being outside in nature and connecting with the earth can have a calming effect on the mind and body. Gardening can provide a sense of peace and tranquility that is hard to find in our fast-paced lives.
- Creativity: Gardening allows for creativity and self-expression. Whether it’s choosing plants, arranging flowers, or designing a garden layout, gardening can be a fun and rewarding creative outlet.
- Sense of Accomplishment: Seeing the results of your hard work in the form of a beautiful garden can provide a sense of accomplishment and boost self-esteem.
- Social Interaction: Gardening can be a social activity, whether it’s working with friends and family or joining a gardening club. Social interaction can improve mood and reduce stress.
- Healthy Eating: Growing your own fruits and vegetables can lead to a healthier diet, which can have a positive impact on both physical and mental health.
In conclusion, gardening is a wonderful way to relieve stress and improve overall well-being. From mindfulness and physical activity to creativity and a sense of accomplishment, gardening provides a multitude of therapeutic benefits. So next time you’re feeling stressed, consider taking some time to tend to your garden and reap the benefits of this ancient practice.
