Being a good human is a luxury. It has been easy to be fueled in our world with hate, indifference, and negativity. Choosing the latter is the power we all try to attain. I consider myself a philanthropist. As a young girl, my grandmother would always put me in the way of charity to others. It’s why I didn’t realize how little we had.
Philanthropy refers to the act of giving money, time, or resources to a good cause. It can take many forms, from donating to a charitable organization to volunteering time to help those in need. I was most proud of my work with the Children’s Home of Oxford, NC. That was truly a humbling experience. We attended church with the children, raised money for them, and got to break bread with them on different occasions. I volunteered dozens of times and was also on the receiving end of donations as well. Some of the most giving people I ever met were those who had little. This shaped my adulthood and my values.
There are many reasons why philanthropy is vital in our world. Here are a few:
- It helps to address pressing social issues: Philanthropy allows people to contribute to causes that they care about, such as fighting poverty, improving access to education, or protecting the environment. By supporting organizations that are working to address these issues, philanthropists can help make a positive impact on the world.
- It fosters a sense of community and connection: When people come together to support a common cause, it can help to build a sense of community and connection. This sense of belonging can be especially important in times of crisis, when people may feel isolated or helpless.
- It encourages personal and professional growth: Participating in philanthropy can be a rewarding experience that helps people to grow personally and professionally. By working with others to achieve a common goal, people can develop new skills and gain a sense of accomplishment.
- It can inspire others to give back: When people see others giving their time and resources to good causes, it can inspire them to do the same. This can create a ripple effect of positive change in the world.
Overall, philanthropy is a vital part of our world because it helps to address important social issues, fosters a sense of community, encourages personal and professional growth, and inspires others to give back.
